Women often portray other women, or themselves, their emotions and their mental states.
Men tend to explore what is happening around them, and the wider human experience.
The majority of famous women artists throughout time have displayed this predisposition toward depicting women.
Tracey Emin, Sarah Lucas, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O'Keefe (Vagina paintings), Cindy Sherman, Judy Chicago... loads of them.
Its also part of why male artists continue to sell better than women artists;
There are a lot more male art collectors than female - and male art collectors gravitate towards art by other men.
Men don't tend to want to linger on introspective imagery.
Landscapes always sell more than painting of mothers with children.
This is not a hard and fast rule, of course, it is only as trend within art. There are plenty of excellent women artists who also depict things other than the female form, mental experience, or subjects relating to womens rights.
