>>4443643Gideon Mendel (born 31 August 1959) is a South African photographer, based in London. His work engages with contemporary social issues of global concern. It was his work as a 'struggle photographer' during the final years of apartheid in the 1980s that first brought attention to his work.
The series shows the attempt by the South African photographer is to explore the global climate emergency in a personal and systematic way, in order to show that its effects ignore all boundaries of wealth, class, ethnicity and geography. Mendel has been documenting floods in 13 countries around the world since 2007. He presents direct portraits of those affected, supplemented by abstract landscape images, to create a typology of climate change.
Mendel started the project after travelling to the UK, and then India to document the damage caused by floods a few weeks apart from each other. He was struck by the "contrasting effects of the flooding, and the shared vulnerability of their victims". He describes the project as "my attempt to explore the effects of climate change in an intimate way, taking us beyond faceless statistics and into the individual experiences of its victims." Since beginning the project, he has documented flood damage and the impact of people living in areas affected by floods in countries including Haiti, Pakistan, Australia, Thailand, Nigeria, Germany and the Philippines.
Central to the narrative of the work are the submerged portraits. The subjects' flooded homes are often used as locations, creating a disconcertingly altered environment.
The full body of work consists of these portraits, as well as two further series. Flood Linesdocuments the impact of floodwaters of interior spaces, and Water Marks records the changes left by flood waters left on personal photographs of the victims, which Mendel photographs and collects.
And thatโs all for now.
This one is probably my favorite out of the series so far. Really like the idea as well as the execution of it.
Will keep an eye on this Mendel guy
Ah there was still one photo left
>>4445834 (OP)>Be alarmed by global warming >Buy some gear and travel the world >Take ugly pics>Be acclaimed by midwitsYeah the world will never be saved by artists they are parasites but yet they get all the credit
>>4445834 (OP)seems like a gimmick, one trick pony, looks like ai generated.
>>4446328Its literally the theme of this photobook.
If you werenโt lazy and stupid youโd check out some of his other works.
>>4446334desu i like some of his shit. it's weird. but i don't give a fuck about "muh climate change". humanity is a one retarded specie in this cycle of eternal transformation. imagine giving your kin so much importance. fuck human.
also straight and sharp photography is disgusting. reminds me of ai.
>>4446341I think you take this too personally
For example, im not a fan of chocolate, but the photographer makes some work about chocolate, Iโd rather judge the work on if its coherent rather than close my eyes because I donโt like chocolate
>>4446341This guy is upset because some of the subjects are black and generally, non-white. Racist MAGA being racist who would've thought
>>4446376>I think you take this too personallywhy i shouldn't? i don't care if i come off as womanly
>>44464074/10 bait
flood water contains shit
all these people are standing in poo water
>>4446437what does this have to do with appearing womanly?
What you are doing is looking at my finger while I point you to the moon
>>4445834 (OP)What a fucking one-trick gimmick-pony.
The execution isn't even good.
>>4445837>Cool flood photos>CLIMATE CHANGE GUYSBut not all floods are caused by climate change. Basically every body of water floods eventually. I find the way artists clamor for attention from their (((masters))) by latching on to american left wing talking points a bit pathetic
This thread made a lot of you shidd and piss their pants, which in a maga universe is a clear WIN for the good guys
>>4447418I'm actually liberal (very socialist, although with a strong nationalist bent) and a huge fan of environmentalism and animal rights, but this is just disingenuous and amateurish
