My Sony A7Sii started to make this rattling noise when I attach a zoom lens. It seems like it can't decide on one shutter speed and the aperture keeps fighting not sure what to do. The only way it stops is if I focus out all the way but once I do that I can no longer adjust focus

Can I fix this on my own or do I gotta take it into a professional? My issue is I live somewhere rural and closest place is 150 miles away so hoping not to have to go that far

Is it a cheap or very old lens? You can just go into a dust free room, take it apart, and put lubricant on the bearings the zoom moves back and forth on. Or you can pay a guy $200 to do that

I have no issues adjusting the focus ring and everything works just fine when not attached to camera. Problem only occurs when attached to camera. I'm thinking it is something to do with the auto settings or a sensor. I tried to factory restore it but it didn't do anything

The amount of force that a lens motor uses is tiny compared to physically adjusting the lens. I've had this happen to cheap chinese lenses I just grease them

Are you sure the sound is coming from the lens? It sounds like the IBIS mechanism. Ive had 2 Sony bodies in the past where the IBIS has malfunctioned and it makes a non stop shaking noise. They are really delicate. If thats what it is youre pretty much fucked. Theyll charge you close to a new camera to fix it.

I only have that one lens and a wide field lens. When I put the wide field lens on there is no sound or any issues. I would have to try another focus lens to determine which has the issue. But I'm positive the rattling is coming from the lens itself, I think it's the camera trying to focus but the lens won't

Lens communication issue. Clean the lens contacts with alcohol. If no luck, sell lens for parts.

All cameras break :^) (but if nikons do they issue a recall and fix them all for free)

>Snoy camera suddenly breaks down for no reason
Many such cases. Sell the parts and get a proper camera system (Canon/Nikon/Panasonic).
