It's not boomers specifically, it's elderly people in general. As they get old a sizeable fraction of them get irritable and hateful, especially towards younger people. They're palsy with other old people but shit on young people as much as possible. A sliver of this is understandable - young people have their lives ahead of them so the elderly are jealous of that. And what really makes the whole thing toxic is the dementia or continual mental decline elderly people go through. So let's say they highly respected an influential person like a judge or legislator when they were 45 right? When that person is 60 or 65, no matter how downhill they have gone, the first old person is going to continually support them and hold them in the highest regard, no matter how obvious their mental deficits and how unfair and irresponsible what they're doing is. The old boys club attitude is one of the ways people have tried to explain it.

Then you see young people being so nice to very elderly people at for example a grocery store, with absolutely no clue of what insane, cruel monsters they actually are when given the chance. Older people can be very fucking charismatic.

So getting more and more cantankerous and crooked and assholish is a huge hazard of getting older, it has to be acknowledged and looked out for.
