Friend of mine like you who I genuinely thought was going to off himself went and hiked on the Appalachian trail and ended up living and working at a hostel and now he's happier than me. There are lots of people out there with land and property that desperately need people just to do the basic upkeep and maybe have some company around in exchange for rent, that's what I'm doing the last 3 years in Oregon and it's great.
