OK, real talk. Why can't Europe build their own digital ecosystems? Europe is FULLY dependent on Apple, Google and Microsoft. If you are living in EU their (((digitization))) efforts mean that you can't do anything without an Apple or Google phone on the go and all government interactions better be in .docx.
>inb4 we will just (((regulate))) them
You europoors simply don't have the cards. EU needs American tech firms more than FAANG needs Europe.

>inb4 Linux is Finnish
Linux is just a kernel and mostly developed by Americans.

Europe historically has been extremely incompetent and behind in digital technology and infrastructure. I am unsure if they even had internet before 1995.

This is Sadly true...

Being behind is fine. Trying to increase your dependency on foreign ecosystems to pursue (((digitization))) (read: enslavement of your nations) is not.

I'd genuinely use Chinese software over american or european ones

That's rich coming from japan.
The Netherlands had internet since 1991 and currently has extremely advanced fiber infrastructure.

But yeah I cringe every time I hear government officials talking about getting deeper in bed with big burger tech companies. We need a European cloud provider. And a legal ban for governments to use foreign cloud providers.

European internet infrastructure is pretty good especially since many of you sidestepped outdated tech and could go straight to GPON fiber in your towns. IXP culture is good. Ericsson is good. But that's just the base layer and value accrues above.

OVH, Scaleway, Hetzner - not enough? If your government has vendor lock-in for BigTable or Spanner they have only themselves to blame.

The reason is obvious - the US is the largest market, it commands the petrodollar, and when it comes to tech, barriers are almost non-existent
What this means is that American companies can quickly dominate new sectors, have ample foreign investment, and can penetrate new markets and outcompete native rivals easily

Doesn't explain the push for more digitization though

What digitization are you speaking of?
EU?
You mutts generally misunderstand the EU. It makes a lot of noise but it isn't all that relevant compared to national governments, and it has a budget below 1% of EU GDP
Also, when it comes to matters of strategic importance, such as government surveillance, Europe is very much America's vassal still. At least for now. Personally I'd rather be spied on by chinks than jews and their mutt minions, and I'm not alone

They are allegedly working on alternative to AWS. Just in case things go belly up with the Americans. Apparently the Germans and French are squabbling, which is holding it up.

government cloud instead of private competition? what could go wrong - half of europe has experience with government grocery stores lol

I don't think we are dependent on apple...
the others though, totally. Recently microsoft is trying to built a european based branch that can split up from the american one in an emergency lol

This doesn't happen.
