In China rent is dirt cheap because the Chinese have a weird cultural fixation where they only invest in real estate and gold so there's a massive oversupply of housing

The consequence is if you're a level 1 slime chink bugman your rent is like 10% of your take home pay to live in a bachelor apartment.

Also another cultural thing is that in China you have to pay a dowry to get a wife so the savings rate reflects that. It's not a fake savings rate, the cost of living really is much lower.

It doesn't matter to me one way or another. Poor in the United States isn't much different than poor in China. Broke is broke. I will say China has a nasty habit of cooking their books. Lower level officials in the CCP have a tendency to over inflate numbers on anything they want to look good so that higher level officials don't disappear and replace them. A lot of people are starting to question the reported birth rate because the numbers don't match mandatory vaccinations given at birth. The numbers are off pretty substantially. Some people are even starting to question their overall population claims. I've seen some projections that it's actually at around 300 million people. There does seem to be a lot of completely empty cities.

I really don't know the complete ins and outs but I do know China lying is almost a Meme on the global stage.
