This looks like a failure on behalf of the maintenance / repair crew.

The gears only go up when they have positive ascent. They never actually achieved that, so the gears were right to be down.
The question is whether or not the flaps setting caused them to not have enough lift. Flaps alone shouldn't have caused it.

The Engines failed it says it right in the article. If it were the plaps the plane would still takeoff but it would need more speed and longer distance down the runway. If you want my expert opinion it was most likely contaminated fuel or FOD. But if you look closely at the video taken from the airport you can see some weird happening to the engines just before he rotates.

It looks to me like he just stalled out. The initial climb after rotation was due to ground effect lift and it dissipates after altitude AGL is 1/2 the wing length. Then he loses lift, pulls up more, goes into more of a stall condition and it is unrecoverable at that point. But, he continues stalling all the way until leaving the frame.

The density altitude was very high and a higher climb speed is needed to avoid Vs

That doesn't make sense. I saw the video. The plane just glided down and hit a bunch of buildings. Even if the flaps were wrong, they weren't pointing the plane down. He corrected and pointed the nose up before the crash but the plane still went down. The only way you would go down while your nose was pointed up would be a loss of engines. The problem with that airport is that so many buildings are around it. If it were empty fields around it, they probably would have survived an emergency landing without engines.

However, it can't maintain a steady pitch without flaps, and it loses the ground effect. The pilots rotated the plane at the end of the runway, and it became airborne. In the video, you can hear the engines working until the crash, but there was no lift, and it looks like they stalled

In the video from the airfield, you can see the plane rotate at the very end of the runway, with plumes of dust visible. Additionally, the air was hot at 38Β°C (100.4Β°F), requiring more lift to fly. They used the full length of the airstrip to gain speed beyond normal rotation, but the flaps were not extended. Even though they managed to lift off, the landing gear remained down until the end. The problem is if both engines really did fail, then it doesn't really matter if you have a working generator for power - you're going to be crashing and if you're that close to the ground (400 ft above the ground) then you're just fucked totally.

Yes but they shutdown the APU after engine start unless one of the generators are deferred. The APU takes about 2-3 minutes to start. There wasn't enough time as the engines failed at the most critical time they possibly could.

The way the lift "evaporate" just after take-off could eventually be explained by that sort of action. But the crispest vid of the plane start when it started to fall so we don't really have clear evidence of that...
The take-off run vid is too grainy to be sure, but someone pointed to that between the 20sec to 26sec mark, of flaps being retracted, but I can't really affirm that as the image quality is too grainy once again...

One thing is still tickling me is that there is some kind of wisthling sound added on top of like some form of rubbing noise if I may say it like that... I also wasn't expecting this type of noise coming from the engines as I was supposing they were going Full throttles for take-off... They are powering for sure, but I'd say that they are just not at full power given the sounds they makes (somthing around 50% or just over) but I might eventually be wrong though...
