But I don't fault you for this; protestant culture that we were brought up in is entirely external and devoid of any real spiritual depth. You ask your average "christian" today about fasting, or you use the dreaded R word of 'repentance' and they will look at you like Jesus Christ didn't talk at all about these things.
Same with your average Roman Catholic. They don't fast, they hardly even observe Lent beyond knowing that Lent comes before Easter and it means fried fish and chips for dinner once a week.
