The disparity between Western and Eastern military equipment continues to shock me to this day.
How can there possibly be a real WW3 when it would be this much of a one-sided curbstomp?
>Western equipment allowed impoverished shithole Ukraine to stand toe to toe with Russia, the second largest army on Earth
>Nobody in the Middle East can hope to stand up to western-armed Israel
All that's left is China, but I doubt they would fare any better.

Every time the west starts slipping they do an aggressive reassessment and overhaul until they are dominating like 10:1 again, like the Top Gun program which was created because American pilots in Vietnam were ONLY killing like twice or thrice as many enemy planes as they were losing themselves, which isn't good enough by western standards. Westerners are shit at certain things but when it comes to killing efficiency we simply don't fuck around, it is expected for a western fighter to be able to kill like ten combatants minimum on average.

more manpower authoritarian shitholes have some advantages in wars, no anti gov or anti war protests. they can also hide casualities and sacrafice way more people then western nations. That's what happened back in nam, gooks had 100x more casualities than you burgers, but you still pulled out

>some planes
>some fake numbers

In REALITY.
US-UK terrorist alliance needs aircraft carriers and planes.
Because they do their military terrorist activities from ships.
So they need the latest planes.

East doesn't need the latest planes.
For instance, if you consider a NATO-West war against Russia in Ukraine, it isn't solved by the planes.

It is currently won by Russia against the west by actual 21st century technologies - ballistic missiles and drones.

IIRC even during the principate the segmentata wasn't the uniform standard, albeit it was mass produced like in no other era
but overall, my point is, in the late empire you didn't have a military that on paper was weaker than the preceding eras, the cavalry was definitely superior, the organization too didn't fall behind, even as late as when Goths were marauding inside the Roman territories they could still get their asses whooped by numerically inferior but very organized Roman legions
so even if Sassanids, the comparable competing foreign empire, could never hope to march onto Rome or conquer it otherwise, they still didn't need to nor to out-tech Romans, they could just wait it out

Chain mail was actually higher tech and superior in combat to the lorica segmentata. The misconception comes from late medieval plate armor, which was better than chain, but the Roman armor was not the same thing, notice the flat angles, and it was not made out of steel.

American AD is terrible (even if we believe made up propaganda stories like stingers in Afghanistan) and the use of air power for strategic goal is even worse.

It tends to perform well against enemies who cannot fight back, but the moment it's faced with token amounts of AD, we get what we saw in Yemen, losing aircraft and failed to accomplish anything.

I'd rather not talk about the fight between Israel and Iran right now, Israel lies so much it makes even American look honest in comparison, and it takes some time for reliable data to appear.

Instead, let's focus on Yemen, what did the airpower of US managed to accomplish? Did the use of US planes managed to archive any strategic goal? If anything, the tiny amounts of AD Houthis had prevented the US from archiving anything.

No. It's harder. The Segmentata is just bands of iron while the chainmail is an intricate system. It's like the Macedonian phalanx problem. It's better if you have the cavalry and units, but fielding the army is hard. The Roman units and gear wasn't better. A Gallic warrior was 1v1 better equipped if properly kitted, but the issue was the kit was too expensive and hard to make so most were just shirtless.
