The other thing that makes Trump not a cult of personality is that he effectively promotes and advances popular agendas. Anti-MAGA factions on both sides have repeatedly taken unpopular positions that are bad for regular people and leveraged corrupt propaganda to convince people to look the other way and generally prevent any redress of grievances.
Popular doesn't always mean good or right, but in the modern era it's gotten to the point where NONE of the elite positions are good and right. This means there's virtually no ~popular~ cost for MAGA to adopt sane, reasonable positions. There's no need to compromise or give any ground on an issue like immigration, because the opponent's position is completely fucking insane. So anyone in that faction is either insane or hopelessly brainwashed by propaganda.
