You have to provide completely for each wife, it is really only for wealthier Muslims. Many Muslims only marry one woman even if they can marry more.

It is but it's really difficult to contrast given it's how things are supposed to work out in a natural environment, polygamy is the original state of all animals not the other way around.
A single high value male is supposed to have a harem of multiple wives, monogamy obviously led to higher stability and overall quality of life but it requires a strong religion presence to be enforced because both men and women (especially the latter) typically reject it if they are able to.
