No it isn't. I haven't marched since I left the army in 2011 and I could still march in step today if I had to. Honestly, I don't think they're entirely at fault. I also don't think it's the lack of drums or cadence calling either. I think it's the way everyone seems focused on being stiff and thinking about their hand movements that's making them struggle to stay in step with one another. Every unit I saw had people out of step. The stiffness and the awkward hand movements is the cause of it. I can see myself getting out of step too if I had to march like that. Whereas if I was free to walk normally, with natural arm swinging, I'd find it much easier to stay in step.

It's not the soldiers, it's the regulations forcing people to march awkwardly.

Every regiment in the British army has its own dress uniform. This stuff may not seem relevant to actual warfare, but soldiers don't spend all their time on campaign. Showing off your marching skills in flash uniforms in front of cheering crowds is a great way of improving the morale of soldiers. The people cheering are after all the ones you are supposed to be fighting for. Good soldiers want to be loved.
Admittedly, we limeys are good at this shit - but that's because we've been doing it so long. I never realised until today how little the US forces do this stuff. I've seen Greeks, Indians, Pakistanis, Chinese military parades and they're all incredible shows of precision marching in cool uniforms. It *is* important, and your services should probably make these things a habit and learn how to do it well.

we marched better in JROTC back in highschool, some of that shit they showed at the parade was kinda embarrassing, however like what other anons said, the US doesnt do military parades much so unless your in some kind of marching band theres not really a push to keep up like the russians/chinese/norks etc.
