I looked up the town, it's a pretty small place only 4k people and the demography is pretty stable and only 1.6% are under the poverty line.
however this push is entirely from the Canbury Housing Associates, it's a nonprofit org that supplies affordable housing in the area, basically a NGO landlord.
there's huge money from the rent seeking inherent in affordable housing.
think of the under the table shit with contracts for construction, materials, and so on.
then there is the housing itself. they'll all be section 8 units which is money from the government every month. in Cranbury the average rent is like 1700, so with 2000 units that's 40 million a year.
naturally the people running the NGO aren't pocketing it but a large portion is used for "expenses" and "investments".
there is so much graft in NGOs it's insane.
