Has there been a system of positive selection within the borders of modern Greece in >1500 years? I've met a lot of Greeks in Canada and I'd say that it really depends on the particular Greek. I've met some who look pretty much like the ancient statues (especially when they grow beards), I've met some that look like Turks, and I've met some that look like Slavs. It's clearly not a genetically uniform population.

Turks, by the way, largely match the inhabitants of Bronze Age Anatolia. Which were adjacent to Ancient Greeks. The answer you're looking for isn't in population genetics, it's in self-reinforcing social structures that implicitly promote genetics. That's one of the reasons that Jews got so smart and equally the reason why they may not always be so.

To anyone who might read this as cope, here's what it isn't. Modern Turkey is doing better than Modern Greece. If the problem of Greece were "Turkish genetics", why is Turkey itself doing better?
