The best thing a therapist taught me was that what I get out of therapy will be in relation to what I put into it. They will be the tool that helps me get myself out of the mental hellhole I was living in, or they will be the tool I use to keep myself there by telling myself everything is fine and I'm perfect and I just need to get through two more weeks.

Therapists are trained to never hard-contradict you, as it leads to unproductive blowups and confrontations, which is the opposite of therapy. The unfortunate side effect is that means all they're allowed to do is smile and nod and encourage you, and sometimes offer forward advice without ever telling you you were wrong in the past. What this means is women use therapy for validation the way men use prostitutes for sex. It's paid-for yes-women.

It taught me I wasn't the one who needed therapy, and that my problems couldn't be discovered or worked through with a therapist.
I had to find them, observe them, analyse them on my own, and then develop or find solutions and implement them.

Had to go to couples therapy to finish my divorce. Main reason we were getting divorced was because she cheated and her reasoning for doing it was because I was a depressed mess for 6 months, she conveniently didn’t mention that it was right after my mom, dad and sister died in a car accident. Therapist said we were both in a tough spot, I should forgive and forget and that me putting in 90 hour work weeks to afford a house down payment was just as bad.

Aldous Huxley wrote an entire book on his mescaline experience, "The Doors of Perception." It's actually not a very good book, but it's a neglected part of the cultural history.

Mescaline has a very solar and masculine energy or aspect to it, whereas most psychedelics are more watery, feminine, and chaotic.

I've taken it a few times on my own, and I took it several times during a month long trip to Peru, where I also took a lot of ayahuasca, but never both at the same time.

Mescaline has always had me feeling highly energetic. I've always felt compelled to take a long walk during each 12+ hour trip. I've gotten the flow state consciousness you expect from psychedelics with it, but it always feels very clear and light. It has never made me feel confused. It's challenging aspects are its duration, the stimulation, and even the clarity of thought if tangling with something difficult.

I definitely had a moment where I watched a double rainbow emerge over the rainforest during a break in a storm and teared up, overwhelmed by the beauty of it. So despite how I may have described it, it is still emotional.

This is way different from say, ayahuasca, which is associated with ego loss and visions when done in ceremony and in the dark. Mescaline should be done during the day.

In fact, when the conquistadors were cracking down on the indigenous religions, the huachumeros were easily exterminated because they were so easy to find. They would take their cactus and do their shamanism on the mountains in broad daylight. The ayahuasqueros would take their brew at night hidden away in the jungle. So the ayahuasca tradition survived while the huachuma (psychedelic cactus/mescaline) tradition did not.

This thing I did in Peru is not traditional. It's an invention of the last 100 years meant to drive tourism. South American natives never took these psychedelic drugs in community ceremonies. They were reserved for the shamans and medicine men. Sick people would go to a shaman, who would take ayahuasca, and then the spirits would use the shaman as a medium to impart healing power, as well as informing the shaman of the petitioner's condition and of which plant medicines they needed to take.
