The US should adopt the metric system.

They almost did in the 1970s, then they chickened out for some reason.

Btw. it's no big deal. We used to measure pipe diameters, length of nails etc in inches up into the 1980s, then changed to centimetres. For a while they had both measurements on boxes, in advertisements, then they just dropped the inches. Nobody rioted, nobody complained.

The only people who think that imperial is good for the carpenters or some shit are the people who never used it for anything.

I worked in civilian aviation and since the amerimutts have so much sway over the markets even the european Airbus is made with imperial and man, it's a nightmare.

>need a new manometer
>measure the threaded shank on the old one
>the calipers show half an inch
>almost order G/2 because it makes sense
>it's actually g/4 because the americans are using some retarded gauge system.

>Have a nut
>have to figure out what wrench to use by trying every single one
>5/7? nope too big
>9/16 too small
>Ah yes, 17/32
Who does that?

And the torque wrenches are all either in LbfIN or LbfFT constantly confusing the technicians. Can't they all be just Lbfin, or better NM?

You have no idea how good the metric system is, only a person who worked with both can appreciate it.

>Have a nut
>measure with calipers
>11.93mm
>12th wrench/socket
>fits immediatelly

>Have a thread
>measure it
>7.82 on calipers
>M8

>Have a wire
>just measure the wire
>calipers cay 0.82
>it's a 0.8mm wire, there's no gaige, you just measure the wire

You have no fucking idea how good it is to just use decimal fractrions with your calipers. They don't make the natural fraction calipers, do they? Or the gauge bullshit caliper.

Imperial system is not only the Americal retardation, they are spreading it around the world with their fat mixed race judeo-influence like cancer.

They should use a mix of imperial and metric system, like India. Imperial for everything related to the human body and on human scale, like height, tailoring measurement, furniture, interior measurements of houses. etc, because it's more intuitive. Metric for everything that requires precise measurement, like distance, speed, weights, force, and other scientific measurements on the macro and micro scale.

>Except machining because thou > mm

The metric machinists use tenths and hundredths of a millimeter for all their precision needs. 1 thou = 2.5 0.01mm.

Except there are no gauges or anything, you know everything with just a pair of calipers.
>thread - just measure it
>thread pitch - just measure it
>sheet - just measure it
>pipe - just measure it
>wire - just measure it
Imagine a world with no gauges at all.

Canada legally uses metric but practically uses imperial, anything personal or informal will be imperial. For example my license says 196cm but if asked about my height I'd say 6'5. I might have to build a 24 foot fence using 6"x6"x12' posts at a house 40 km from here. Gas is bought by the liter but I buy meat by the pound. I do enjoy the leaf system of measurement.

you're fucking retarded, whatever you approximate you can do it in any unit.

Meters is easier to approximate in because a "foot" is smaller... you have a harder time to approximate something when the units are smaller.

>no gauges
I mean there are no wire gauge, sheet gauge, or pipe gauge or anything of that sort.
They still have the micrometers, indicators and gauge blocks, except all of them are decimal and linear, no bullshit like half inch threads = G/4.

The beauty of the metric system is that you can just measure the thread, if it says 12 that's an M12 thread, you don't need to look up whether it's G/2 or G/4, the calipers say it's 12 that means it's M12 and same for everything, wires, pipes, holes, sheets, you really can know everything about a part with a pair of calipers, and sometimes a micrometer.

you only cling to imperial out of stubborn pride and contrarianism. Metric is objectively better by every metric. (hehe)

why da u.s. need to get on dat metric system frfr:

>1. errybody else on it why we ain?
da whole globe rockin w metric n we out here stuck on inches n feet like its 1776. if we switched up tradin sciencin n jus talkin to otha countries would be way smootha. like all dem big-brain scientists already usin metric, why we gotta be different?

>2. dis mad too easy why we makin it hard?
metric straight-up simple. errythang base-10, no weird 12 inches in a foot or 16 ounces in a pound. a kilo? das 1000 grams. a liter? 1000 milliliters. no stress no guessin jus clean math.

>3. futcha-proof da kids let em eat!
da world ain gettin less connected. if we switch now da youngins grow up fluent in wut errybody else usin. mo opportunities less confusion, let em cook on a global scale.

>4. schools need to stop playin.
teach da babies metric early n dey won be out here strugglin tryna convert miles to kilometers like its sum ancient cipher. universal units = universal bag.

but hold up… why folks might not wanna switch:

>1. dis gon cost a bag n a half.
we talkin new road signs new tools new errythang. u know how much bread it take to flip a whole countrys measurement system? plus folks gotta relearn stuff, ain nobody got time fo dat.

>2. “but dis how we been doin it!”
folks attached to dey feet pounds n gallons. its like tryna take grandmas cast-iron skillet, she ain lettin go. plus construcshun cookin all dat? people used to imperial n change don come easy.

>3. messing up da money.
sum industries deep in da u.s. market, why dey gotta switch if dey gettin money already? n regular folks? dey ain tryna see liters at da gas pump or grams in dey recipes. too much work.

>4. we kinda halfway dere anyway.
doctors usin milliliters cars got metric specs soda bottles got liters n ounces. so do we really need a full switch or we good jus slidin where it make sense?
Dr. Trayvon (ID: GjRTsbsC) No.507457002
>>507456957
so… is it worth it?

long-term? hell yeah, betta fo business schools n jus keepin up w da world. but short-term? a whole headache. costs pushback n folks jus bein stubborn.

right now we kinda do both, sum metric sum imperial. but a full switch? das a big move.
