The average south american, i would say, respect Russia as a huge military power that can stand up to the US, but 95% of people hate communism here. The only issue is that people vote for left-wing politicians because they fall for the theatrics of it all.
It's no secret that being right-wing, being in favor of reducing state expenses and letting people and companies exchange goods and services more freely sounds good on paper, but not as good as just saying that you will give people more free money (which is what left-wing politicians do here).
