I honestly think the rate of PTSD is much higher in New York than the rest of the first world simply because of how traumatic 9/11 was to live through. It's strange how rarely people mention this

Agreed. The latent PTSD of New Yorkers (and many in the surrounding region who commute/etc) is probably just as damaging as the litany of health issues first responders/clean up crew at ground zero have faced since. take the most dominant workforce and attitude in the world and turn it on its ass

I visited a few times between 95 and 2000, The galleries in Soho were good, China town was cool to visit. The MET and MOMA were also class. House parties were good. Beautiful women in the nightclubs but many seemed to be there for the nogs and that put me off them all.

only wagecuck corpos died nobody cares
the PTSD is from the fallout
then prices began to skyrocket till today
a jar of mustard used to cost 3 dollars in NY, then after the past decade it's now 13
all the holders of supplies know they can just choke the goyim at the credit terminal, and paying cash doesn't change the price
now it's an absolute shithole that every med city mogs in fun, you can visit 10 different european cities on the budget NYC demands and see incredibly hot women, normal dining, etc.
it wasn't even that good anyway before 2000, it had some music and the concerts were cheaper, and the food was a lot better, but the living costs were heading this way
the parks used to be much cleaner too, they just let them rot because NYers have become soulless
it's not worth it, go anywhere else
NY really only serves as a checklist if you are summiting mountains or accumulating national park visits now, metropolitan portions suck so bad and I campaign constantly on it here

In most of the post-cold war years, NYC was in industrial decline and was fading as a commercial center due to advances in communication. They have been a liability to the rest of the state and to the federal government because of their population that can't move elsewhere. The early 2000s were just a minor peak time when the organized crime was down and the entertainment industry was up, but that's always very temporary.

I was a kid but I remember the vibe and energy it had. Totally different. White people everywhere, people generally dressed well, no smartphones obviously so people engaged with each other. Even after 9/11 it was more or less like this. 9/11 pushed brown people out to CT, NJ, and PA but day to day life in NYC didn’t seem to change much until 2010s.

I don’t think anyone appreciates how much it was specifically digital technologies that changed daily life a lot. The political events were significant but honestly maybe less significant.

NYC was awesome in the 90s. It was before they cleaned up the city, so squares were still afraid to live there. I think the term PTSD is overused, but it was a traumatic day, especially to those who lost or nearly lost loved ones, and the weeks that followed were pretty shit too.
I hesitate to powerlevel, but my father, for example, actually got people jobs at the WTC.

Go walk around the city and look at firehouses. Usually they have plaques commemorating dead firefighters.
Most, especially in downtown Manhattan, have conspicuous clusters on or around dated 9/11, with backdated additions for those who died from WTC illnesses.
I knew people who went to Stuyvesant HS (right near GZ), and I often wonder if some of them will develop some WTC-related illness years from now.

There was this brief, shocking period when the city was pretty clean, Times Square was overblown but no more porn theaters and no homeless stabbing tourists. Cops arrested criminals and the city mostly functioned.

I have always wanted to visit the towers but maybe it's just this post-9/11 mysterious aura. There is something so amazing about seeing them in (older) media, like visiting an alternative world.

I still find 9/11 the craziest and most unbelievable event in modern times. Some 20-somethings from the middle-east succeeded in hijacking commercial airplanes, they crashed them into the most important American buildings, people had to jump out of the buildings, the twin towers collapsed in less than 90 minutes, there was a huge dust cloud all over NYC, the people of flight 93 decided to storm the cockpit after hearing from their relatives that the aim is to fly them into buildings, billions of people worldwide saw thousands of people die that day and basically all of America was scared for those hours (not knowing what was going to happen).

It changed our lives forever. I feel like 9/11 was memory-holed, like a bit forgotten.

I kind of thought that when seeing documentaries about pre-9/11 NYC. It felt like some buildings that are very prominent but there is no real reason to visit as a native New Yorker, just two very tall office buildings with observation decks overseeing the rest of Manhattan.

80's it was bad and common at a red light that a homeless man would "wash" your windshield with a bucket of his own urine
90's was ok I guess. When you are a kid you are ignorant to some things though so who knows. Going to public school in Brooklyn and Queens was not good. I learned about racism in the 1st grade when every spic and nigger called me a white rat. You survived by forming racial alliances with other whites. I never been to prison but I imagine it is similiar. It's not like the Spider-man movies where you have a diverse happy safe school where everyone gets along. You are interacting with kids whose parents drilled it into their heads that whites are evil. The teachers do nothing even when a spic kid hit me with a brick.
I remember on 9/11 shitposting on Something Awful about the WTC as I could see it smoking from my window. My sister worked in midtown and had to walk home. She said a Muslim cab driver offered to drive her home for $200. Noticing a pattern here?
After 9/11 transplants made it unbearable. Every "true new yorker" was from Wisconsin or Minnesota forcing the bacon egg and cheese and chopped cheese memes. These were not a big deal in the 80's and 90's this was forced bs. NY kids drank pic related and ate hot popcorn for breakfast every day.
Now the city feels like purgatory. I have no idea why anyone would want to come here. It feels very "dawn before the collapse here". We are over taxed up the ass. What happened to all that money we were supposed to save from taxes on legalizing marijuana? We are about to elect either a rapist or communist Muslim because this city would rather collapse than vote red. I hate this place but I have no where else to go. Everyone I know is here. Don't come here. We are not full and the reason is people are leaving in record amounts. Don't be a bag holder and move here right before the collapse

The biggest thing I don't like about New York are the foreigners," Rocker said in the Sports Illustrated interview. "You can walk an entire block in Times Square and not hear anybody speaking English. Asians and Koreans and Vietnamese and Indians and Russians and Spanish people and everything up there. How the hell did they get in this country?

Nowhere else in the country do people spit at you, throw bottles at you, throw quarters at you, throw batteries at you and say, β€˜Hey, I did your mother last nightβ€”she's a whore.’ I talked about what degenerates they were and they proved me right

Yes, economy wise it was great, however, racial tensions were extremely high since rodney king riots, 100x worse then after charlottesville and george floyd. In addition to this the domestic terrorism attacks.

Then 9/11 happened and the whole country unified, I've never seen this much coexistence before for collective hatred towards the middle east. The nationalism was as great as probably in the 1930s, every football game and baseball game absolutely no one sat down during the national anthem, from the mexican family who brought like 20 kids to the quiet asian family who just normally sat and watched, the nationalism and pride of America was never this glorified. It was nice and low crime until 70's and 80's because blacks came up from the south and ruined it. Giuliani turned it into Disney land and it's peak was probably in '99.

9/11 united everyone for a few years, but the city was increasingly becoming brown. Stop-and-frisk was implemented to keep blacks/hispanics from ruining the city again and was successful, but "muh racism" did away with that.

What do you consider to be that "90's vibe"? If you want to feel old NYC go to Brooklyn and hang out under the bridge. That area is the only part of NYC that is like the 1800's NYC and its why they film shows and movies there when they need to shoot a time piece about NYC. Every tourist that comes here I tell them in one or two days the best thing you can do is start at times square then walk on the west side by the water and the intrepid museum then head south till you hit the Vessel then cut back in go to the Empire State Building then head south till you hit the financial district then walk around there, the WTC, take the ferry to Staten Island to get nice pictures then take it back then walk over the Brooklyn Bridge then hang around that area of Brooklyn. A big eye-opener for me was the fact that the 90s weren't a great era of racial unity, but had the worst racial tensions since the 60s. If anything, 9/11 united most races because of how scared everyone was and the fact that everyone was focused on the Middle East and Muslims. The reawakening of racial tensions in the early 2010s was just whites and blacks getting back to unfinished business they left behind on 9/11 once the aftermath of the attacks finally started to die down.

Woke up early to watch Digimon before school. I ended up watching nonstop emergency stream of both towers falling down. There was a plane collision, but even back then it was clear that the towers fell from controlled demolition, not the plane crash itself. Was pretty cool, tho I missed the new Digimon episode and this event made me go into conspiracy shit from early age.

Yes but Bush's failure is what led to wokeshit. Libs who watched the Daily Show became smug and were fried on dopamine from the right's losing streak (until Trump). They then became Tumblr trannies in Obama's second term.

In Bulgaria we broadcast stuff in different hours than you to match the schedules. We have the same shows, back when I was a kid the only difference was that we were always few seasons behind, probably because of copyright shit.Yu-gi-Oh,Digimon,Pokemon, Shaman King etc etc
Cartoon Network and FoxKids were the bomb, that's how I learned English before grade 1, because none of the shows had subtitles or was dubbed so you are kinda forced to learn the language.

That is true, if 9/11 never happened I do think the 2000s would've continued to see white/black racial relations getting more strained, but I doubt we would've seen woke stuff start early in the 2000s or anything like that.

Liberals in the 2000s and 2010s got way too cocky I feel, the majority I believe didn't really like their brand of liberalism and Obama wasn't as popular as they thought. Bush got two terms and Obama only won because of the financial crisis, and the Tea Party movement popped right after he won. Obama could've very easily been beaten in 2012, had the Republicans put up anyone who actually good instead of Romney, Ron Paul would've annihilated Obama. Then Trump came in 2016 and obliterated Clinton and the Democrats, majority of Americans didn't really like the smug liberal type that was prevalent around the time.

The entire day in NYC after 9/11 there was nothing but news playing 24 hours it was annoying. I actually woke up to quiet video of one of the towers burning and had no idea what the fuck was going on.

We went through a retard cycle where anytime a channel played a movie like Independence Day or anything with building destruction in it the media would make a big deal about it and force the channels to cancel it for a couple of months.

Fun fact 2 days after 9/11 there was an episode of the show Power Rangers Time Force that dealt with a terrorist character giving a speech after attacking a city and they had to hastily edit it so they just played the theme song over his speech and it is incredibly awkward watch

I spent a lot of my childhood in Manhattan in the 90s. It was epic. Hailing a cab felt like a superpower. There were a lot of hole in the wall skate shops that were full of the most authentic street rats you’d ever see. I’m talking the grimiest, greasy haired, dirty fingered, motherfuckers. Their clothes were always ripped to fuck. Think Kurt Cobain on steroids.

There were always black dudes carrying huge trash bags full of knockoff sunglasses and watchesβ€”rolex, oakley, etc. They were ten or 12 bucks. Sometimes 30.

I witnessed homeless guys jerking off on the subway floor when I was 6 years old. You’d see black kids huddled together smoking cigars or fucking off in alleyways. And the most beautiful women you can imagine near Park Ave. I spent a lot of time in KB Toys, not even buying shit, just drooling over insanely expensive action figures.

Everything felt huge, but I was also under five feet for my entire experience there. The first time I visited the trade centers, I had a very bad experience in the lobby.

I can’t say it felt like a safe city, but it was always exciting to be there. I saw the Lion King theatrical release there, and the stage play on broadway, as well as Phantom of the Opera.

I miss being a little kid, goddamn. Fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Yea I was in college in the city then and it was great, post Giuliani crime-cleanup, city was breddy gud, fun times, there were still nogs to be aware of of course but cops kept them in check all the way up to 125th. Before 9/11 you could get a fake ID for $20 in Chinatown that was perfect, but a lot of the best bars didn't care anyway. As EDM took off the big clubs got incredibly lame, too expensive and filled with EDM dorks but also bewildered bridge-and-tunnel guys who didn't understand dance music but were still there trying to snag underage poon, except by then tastes had changed and girls wanted nothing to do with guys like that.

The hipster scene started to evolve in 2002-2003 in Brooklyn, though. My peer group were the first people to start wearing trucker hats, beards, flannel, microbrews, etc.; all the hipster tropes were new then. And you won't be surprised to know that the real "pioneers" of the modern hipster scene were total fucking dickheads.

Crime stats are crime stats retard your anecdotal evidence means jack shit. They have problem areas there in both those cities which is what I said every city has. You were wrong. You can't even whine about wikipedia because all those facts have citations to links proving what they are saying

Funny. Guess it's a defensive instinct to project that all places on Earth are just the same shit holes as Northern America cities in 2025. Anyway.

There was that place is long gone closed 13 years ago. There was a better themed restaurant IMO named Ninja NY which was an underground restaurant and the dining area was a small Japanese village. From when you entered to when you left people dressed as ninjas would harass and scare you even when you were on the urinal. It was great. Pricey but great.

All I am saying is stop obsessing over us and fix your own country. This obsession with Trump almost comes off as you guys gave up on life and are mad that us Americans have optimism despite how misguided it is and you want us to be as miserable as you are.

it was full of jews. zionists have no issue killing or using jews to further their goals. zionists use judaism as a untouchability superpower. whoever is against the kazharian mafia who could not be further from jews will be labeled an antisemite. so people died so zionists could rally judeo-christcucks to defeat all sourrounding muslim enemies of the zionist state, israel. nothing has changed since then, enjoy your war with iran, with your boots on the ground.
