The Jetsons takes place in 2060. Hannah-Barbara knew that even this was ridiculous, but it was more of a joke and a counterpart to The Flintstones (a lazy man who hates his job and is constantly fired from it, contrasting to a hardworking men who has no problems with his, one job about being lazy with a computer, while the other involving actual labor on a dinosaur acting like a crane, parents who became pet owners for one and pet owners who became parents for the other, one family having no real friends while the other having their next door neighbors being their best friends, one show revolving around one family while the other revolving around two), as both shows take place in the same universe.

So it's taking the future in a setting that was never supposed to be serious, because the other did the same to the past.

Lack of an energy source capable of powering such a high weight-to-lift vehicle for anything longer than a few minutes and at significant speeds. Professionaly maintained commercial aircraft only going from airport to airport is very different from Rajeesh flying to work at his tech job as an h1b from home in a vehicle he must maintain.

Private small planes have wings and can glide to better landing spots if they have altitude and speed even if the engine has issues. Many still die on them, but generally near the airport they are taking off or landing at.

The only thing remotely similar is helicopters flow to landing pads on tall buildings, which are still very rare and in no way mainstream transportation.

Even in a perfect world, humans are prone to error, accidents in earnest would still happen, and a car accident is already bad and high in numbers, imagine flying cars regularly crashing into buildings or falling out of the sky. Disastrous. Buildings that high in the sky, why? What use is that beyond it looking cool? It would be incredibly expensive resource wise for absolutely no practical gain.

If this continued invasion of our living area by the Asia, Africa, Latinos continues, we will be completely swamped. Most important, we wouldn’t be carrying them on our backs now whenever we go to a hospital; we wouldn’t be subjecting our kids to them in our schools; we wouldn’t have them shoved in our faces whenever we turn on a television receiver; we wouldn’t be looking for parts of the country to which we can flee where there are fewer of them; we wouldn’t be watching our whole civilization being pulled back down into barbarism by their dead weight.
