I don't play console games anymore, But i swear when the ps2 came out its reign was like a very long time period, Ps2 dominated life in the 2000's, and most people i knew didnt get a ps3 till 2010

Switch 2 is the final nail in Xbone and Playgay. I have a Switch 2 and it is amazing, dock mode is equal with PS5 base model, proven in comparisons. SteamOS is going to kill off Windows and Xbone. Playgay execs are in full panic mode, they just spent 300 million$ on Concord, a game which shut down after 10 days. And Xbone team has officially given up, you can look it up, they are past panic and into acceptance.

By the time I was 3, I had a NES, SNES, and a Sega Genesis. The cycles of consoles could be 2 years and I’d think it’s completely normal. All I care about is new and better.

Time just moves faster when you grow up. I remember thinking that PS4 was an unfathomable amount of time away as a kid. Now I blinked and the PS5 is almost at EOL.

It's because the switch 2 is an overnight success. Not even joking. PS5 released practically no games, pushed tranny trash, and didn't take nintendo seriously. Switch 2 has a built in mouse with new joycon, it is a next level device. I tested it out and it works great, it feels just as good as any gaming mouse I've ever used. I do, Gaming PC + Switch 2 is my gaming setup. I play CS2 on the PC, playing games on the Switch 2 is more fun than the PC, hard to explain why, but it just is. For example, the built-in emulators on the Switch for the old Nintendo systems look more accurate than any emulator I've used before, I am not sure if it's bullshit, but I have never seen a Gameboy(OG) emulator with the exact perfect green tint like on the Switch, same goes for joystick feel on Switch N64 emulator

A lot of the games that released on PS5 were also released on PS4 there was almost no reason to buy this console.

in response to OP, they've always been 6-8 years. PS5 just was a blip because the only thing people play on it is fortnite. For what it's worth they kind of are starting to merge generations together since consoles are becoming more and more like PCs. The PS4 was still getting games like 3 years into the PS5 lifecycle, and I bet the first 2-4 years of PS6 games will get downgraded to PS5. Console generations are going to become more like phone upgrades. Not so much a big event, but the hardware you upgrade too determines how well your games will play.

I don't know if they're shorter, the PS2 came out in '00 and the 360 in '05. The difference between generations definitely is less distinct, however. The visual difference between PS1 and PS2 games is massive, whereas there are several cross-platform PS4/5 games that look basically the same. Also like you mentioned, less frequency of quality games released within the last 5 years, so a lot of it has been waiting in anticipation for a decent release rather than playing a bunch of new distinct games.

partly it. a huge part of the perception in the past was the large leaps made by consoles. NES - SNES was huge. Game Boy color added a huge thing over Game Boy. N64/Playstation added 3d graphics! PS2 etc had first really sharp, nice 3d graphics.

I don't buy new consoles coz there's nothing I like on them. I have a laptop running every emulator up to rscps3 and dolphin (with and ps3) and about 2tb of roms/isos. I just play them on my TV or on the laptop while reclining on my couch. People are not going to spend 700 dollars on a console with a few games on it. They would rather eat. Historically most generations were 5-6 years. Gen 7 (360/PS3) was unusually long, which can probably be chalked up to the great recession.

That said, gens FEEL shorter now because consoles don't bother having any fucking GAMES anymore. It started with gen 8 but it's gotten worse with gen 9, where everything is some kind of "cross gen multiplat". So even though the PS5 has been out for roughly five years now, the overwhelming majority of that time all its games came out on PS4 too. So none of it felt "next gen" when it's just a glorified ultra graphics mode of PS4 games

At least playstation has a few actual exclusives like Astro Bot and Astro Bot's Playroom (although, given how toxic and retarded Sony fanboys are we should probably not count those because they are "toddler baby games").
