I liked DDLI. But I’m a huge Leslie Nielsen fan. He was a really good serious actor - Forbidden Planet is one of my favorite movies. Then he decided he wanted to do comedy and was even more brilliant with that. If they did it on purpose it's the greatest movie stunt in history. The movie came out 38 years ago. Personally I think that they never intended on a sequel it was popular enough to make one and they didn't. And that was just another one of the many 4th wall jokes in that movie. It was full of them.
