Same reason a lot of humans are obsessed with machinery like cars and planes. It's a way to artificially experience something we could never have naturally, like flying through the skies or zipping through the world at 100+ mph or, in this case, being intelligent.

Someone on here had a good explanation.
In the indian caste system, you always have people below and above you. The higher up you are in the caste system the more people you have below you who are yours to command. So commanding people around is equal to being high in the caste system. AI is like your very own little slave boy who will do anything you ask, giving the indian mind an illusion of being in charge. Even if it's artificial the indian mind gets off on the thought of commanding things around. So AI stimulates this part of the indian brain.

AI is basically the great equalizer, it helps the indian perform way past his normal means in a wide array of tasks and all he has to do to surpass the average retard and work them over is listen to it and work with it.

even in the scenario in the op, the indian instead of bothering to argue or think about whether he was correct or not, or check himself. he just lets the sum amalgamation of knowledge choose his path.
