Look up how many troops were deployed on the Saudi/Iraq border for Desert Storm and Desert Shield. At one point we had everything in place to invade Iran from Iraq and Afghanistan but we lacked the ability to. That time has long since passed.

To not be facetious, in 2002-2003, the narrative that Iraq was developing WMD's was justified to extend the American involvement in the area and mission creep into Iraq. The WMD narrative was constructed almost entirely on Israeli intelligence and influence on congress.
