Depending on the containment method they could be much smaller, as a chunk of anitmatter half the size of a pencil eraser could turn Iran into a crater (likely ending life on Earth by exposing a sizable amount of the mantle to the atmosphere). The problem is that we can't make the amounts of antimatter required to make a bomb of any significant size. If they have cracked that, they should be using it for fuel rather than as a bomb. It would allow for essentially infinite energy density for any type of vehicle, spacecraft, or remote (especially off-planet) power generation.

The famous equation E=MC2 shows, that matter and energy are esentially the same thing, just in different states.
Given that the left side of the equation is multiplying a huge big ass number (lightspeed squared) to the Matter part shows, that in every kind of matter enormous amounts of engery are be stored.
We cannot simply release this energy. With ordinary chemical bombs, only a very tiny amount of that matter is converted into energy. Nuklear bombs are more affective, but also one transport a part of all matter into energy. The Sun with its nuclear fusion process is a bit better. That's why we want to build fusion reactors on earth so desperately, but it seems a never ending serious of failure.
The absolute only way to release 100% of the energy stored in matter is, when you combine it with antimatter of the same amount. The entire matter will vanish and realeases a huge amount of energy.
That being said, there are no antimatter bombs and this topic is gay and fake. Scientists has successfully created antimatter in labs like CERN, but only in a very tiny amount, far off from being any kind of danger. And even that is extremely expensive.
Fun fact: It is still a mystery, why almost all matter in the universe is normal matter, and why there is barely any antimatter in the universe.
