you'd think our law enforcement would look at their dismal record of failure to de-escalate crises and think about what they are doing incorrectly, and go back to the drawing board. but that would require them to adapt to a different paradigm which doesn't revolve around the army's counterinsurgency doctrine, and to respect the constitutional rights of the communities they "protect and serve." and neither of those things are going to happen anytime soon.

people in crisis just want to be heard and understood. even if they are in psychosis. it all depends on literally "meeting them where they are at" without judgment, and especially without threat of violence, and finding out how you can help them- first to meet their immediate needs (in this case, the man needed his burger), and then gradually expanding out to their other needs while taking down the intensity level, step by step.
