Nepotism was more relevant in Soviet era than now. Now you can work,travel and study all over the world. Back then you could not, even if you had some money saved. Only the elites got to experience the world outside the curtain. Soviet times sucked even for countries like Bulgaria who had it probably the best. We were not part of the USSR, so we were dealing business and tourism with both the West and East, Russia was giving us money 'under the table' so that Socialist utopia may seem good to foreigners when they visit us,also our leader was pretty chill, he ruled for like 40+ years, I think he was the longest lasting Soviet leader, Todor Zhivkov, he was friends with both the west and the east, also used to shit on socialism publicly lol
