If the USA knocks over Iran and it falls like Syria the American public will rally behind Trump because we'll be "Winners!" and that is all Americans care about it. Far more likely is that this will not happen and the US will have fallen into civil conflict years before 2028, making any predictions about such elections foolish.

The USA had two choices in how to respond to the decline of global hegemony. One was to make a deal to be a working partner of the multipolar world and the other was to do the classic fading-Empire thing and try to reassert yourself through war.

Trump is a boomer and like all boomers cares more about his personal pride and image (transferred to America) than he does the well-being of the younger generations who will still be alive a decade from now.
