Iron dome was designed to deal with Hamas toy rockets,....they can't cope with Iran's high tier missiles.
For that, they use David's Sling. But apparently they don't have enough ammunition for David's Sling for that's why so many missiles comes hit the cities.

Defence is more expensive than offence for rockets/AD, especially if they shoot a whole bunch of dummy rockets or they break up into smaller material closer to the target.
