There's a long-standing reason why the tribe doesn't like dogs or guns (because they're modern versions of wolves & bows that led Cromagnons to curb-stomp the Neanderthals out of relevance), and has a fascination with weird rituals that always involve stealing kids, but never using their own; one would think if a group was so devoted to their beliefs, then their own children, like the Aztecs, would be very okay with being sacrificed, yet they are not. This begs the question as to why such a deity would be cool with the sacrifice being of a non-believer rather than someone who is bought in.
