I know that is an ironic thing to say here of all places but I'm really starting to fucking hate memes. It feels like the entire internet has been memefied. And it has ruined general discussion and vocabulary as well. 90 percent of people my age (I'm a zoomer) seem unable to have a genuine discussion without resorting presenting their arguments in an irony poisoned format.

Memes are good when they're used for hijacking culture and spreading right wing ideology. Yes I agree boomers and normgroids spread retarded cringe memes, but so what.

The memes have gone wrong. I feel and urge to blame zoomers but I think it started with Baneposting. A meme should exist in a context, that's what gives it meaning. Like frogposting, when you post a frog you're posting a kind of reference frame of attitudes and ideas within which the specific meme works. But then we had Baneposting, which broke from that idea, it's just posting BANE? as a non-sequitur and with no purpose. And as a meme, probably as a direct result of it's insane meaningless nature, it became wildly successful, and so it set a new lower standard for what a meme should be. Meme now just means 'a reference that gets upvotes'. I was on /tv/ a while ago and some fag had made a thread, I don't remember what it was about, something ovetching about disney. But at some point in his wall of text he had innocuously used the word 'redeem'. So the braintards came to the thread and said to themselves 'I recognise that word. That word is in a thing people say.' and the thread from word go consisted of PAJEET SAAR DO NOT REDEEEM GOOD MORNING SAAR. There was no meaning or thought process behind it, no joke being made, it had nothing to with the content of the OP, it was just a programmed response to a trigger word. And that kind of pavlovian non-thinking reflex is 90% of zoomers discourse online, because you're the most easily programmable generation the world has ever seen.

Memes are good fun. It's the modern millennia's answer to strip comics.
