It worked back then because women were both viewed as the lesser sex and did not have the same rights as men, and since the average man could expect a wife and a house and children so long as he played ball with society's expectations. So when a woman offered a man in 1914 a white feather, it was saying "Here you are among women who are supposedly weaker and given less responsibilities than you while real men go off to fight and die, and because of that you will never be viewed as desirable to women."
Except women can vote now and it's beaten into every Western man's head how women are equal to men, if not superior. And you are fucking up your chances to find a wife and a house even MORE than they're already fucked. Because those four years you could have been hustling and grinding, you're now making poverty wages chancing your limbs being shorn off by a drone or an IED as an enlisted grunt while women will be home or overseas, twerking and drinking and acting for all the world like there's no conflict at all, like what happened with Ukrainian women during their country's draft.
