How do we know that posts and replies in threads are from actual people and we're not just conversing with AI bots?

100% we are. I've noticed a DRASTIC uptick in youtube AI comments too(scripted an AI parser for my browser that when I highlight a field of text, it runs it through an AI detection algo to see the likelihood of it being written by AI or not.)

I should probably add some % numbers to keep track, but by my estimation, around 30% of newer youtube comments are AI generated. Some video's are at around 90%, which is fucking crazy.

For this board, It's about 5%. Which is good. It's also topic dependant from the looks of it.
