The issue with pushing the boundaries of what can be sometimes leads to monumental failures. NASA burned through lots of money quite quickly because they were advancing what we knew as best as they could as fast as they felt was safe. I hope spacex hasn't hit a hard threshold of achievement, but they may have. Past that line is a lot of time, money, and blood. These boys may make great astronauts, but they don't know jack about drilling.
