Landlords need to get AC or the tenants need to use the cuck crap ones like OP has. Those are legit safer and you should be allowed to own them. Window units, nope.

No one can realistically defend window mounted monstrosities.

Apparently Americans don't know what an AC (heat pump) is reversible and can heat your house too.

Is this true? It was a running gag when I worked for a company making those. Basically in the US you could sell it as a recent innovation. I think it stemmed from them thinking proper ACs worked like this >>508076565

You need to add a second hose that goes to the condenser if you want to actually cool the room, with just one hose it's gonna push out more air than it pulls in so the room will just pull hot air from the environment
It's pretty easy to modify an existing one-hose machine, just tape a cardboard box over the vent and run a second hose

The problem with these is that they're pulling hot air out of the room and shoving it outside while running a fan over the cold side of the heat exchanger to blow cold, but because you're creating negative pressure in the room with this kind of a loop you end up sucking more hot air inside. You need to keep the hot side outside and the cold side inside. A "simple" solution would be two hoses for input and output, but then you still have all the hot side in the room with you. A window unit or split unit is much more efficient.

It's an AC, it isn't as efficient as it could be because you're getting a load of heat bleed radiating from that uninsulated exhaust pipe plus the heat radiating off the hotside of the system packed into the monolithic unit but it's a fuck of a lot better than nothing.

The cooling unit with fans et al outside on the side of my home is super quiet too. The air coming inside is clean, cool; a gentle cool breeze that reduces the sweaty humidity and makes my home feel so comfy I can immediately fall asleep next to my wife or kids and feel like a million bucks when I wake up.

Higher humidity means more water in the air which means it transfers heat slightly faster so something like 10C at 80% humidity will feel more like 15C at 50% humidity. Basically they do some quick math on the temperature and humidity and shit out a "feels like" temperature

Wind chill (popularly wind chill factor) is the sensation of cold produced by the wind for a given ambient air temperature on exposed skin as the air motion accelerates the rate of heat transfer from the body to the surrounding atmosphere. Its values are always lower than the air temperature in the range where the formula is valid. When the apparent temperature is higher than the air temperature, the heat index is used instead.

wtf also how would anyone ever know if you got it or not? i used a unit like yours in my apt for a while and mine was 8,000 and just barely enough. it would noticieably cool the living room but 1 room is about all it was good for. still it kept the living room cool enough in the low 70s or whatever on days when it was 100. you can do a few things to optimize it try to maek the exhaust tube as short as possible and make sure its got tight seal on the machine. since the machine is gonna be near a window because of the exhaust get good curtains to block the sun which will help everything.

AC in vehicles also useful in the colder months due to the mist on the window that never clears for ages until the heater has kicked in to slowly clear it. Stick the AC and it dehumidifies the whole inside of the vehicle and keeps it till the engine has warmed up. So a good safety thing in vehicles as well.

The compressor and the hot coils are supposed to be outside the space being cooled. Otherwise you're just heating the room as the energy used to run the unit is adding heat to the room, and the unit is not able to dump the heat elsewhere. These units with filmsy plastic tubing make the problem worse.

Nah man a modern air-to-water heat pump will still have a COP of at least 1.5 (probably more like 2) at -10C outside and a ground source heat pump (having a much more stable source temp) will have a COP of around 4-6 year round.
COP of electric heating is 1.
You will ALWAYS use more electric energy using resistive heating compared to heat pump heating.
That is disregarding the financial aspects of initial investment and running costs, price of gas and electricity, photovoltaic self-consumption, etc.

The hose is a cheap piece of thin uninsulated plastic. The hot coils are not isolated and insulated from the interior of the house. If you disassembled the unit you would realize how stupid your post is.

Windows units are better. In order to push the hot air out the windows you draw outside air somewhere in the house. The windows unit cools itself with only outside air. In addition the gradient heat from the machine is mostly outside.

EV's now have heaters and coolers on them and they run from a heat pump. You can also pre set them so that activates at a time before you use it. Some like hte Tesla's won't let you even charge without i going through a heat up (and a supposed cool cycle in the summer if hot). So certainly better than a cordless tools etc, they really can't beat ICE tho for extreme weather

EVs have a heater for the batteries to keep them from freezing. It obviously drains power but it's better than letting the batteries freeze

This... they are shit. Proper AC dumps heat outside using exterior air over a radiator. These use room air, creating a vacuum. I used one in a cottage once and it just kept sucking hot air down from the attic. It is extremely inefficient.
