If blacks are so "stupid" then how were they able to create the most mathematically complex genre of music known to man?

Jazz helps plants grow btw.

Jazz or "joss" as it used to be called, descends from white riverboat bands who the negros heard playing when they ported.

Willie Ruff, a Black music historian and master jazz musician, wrote a whole book about how American black music descends ultimately from the Scots-Irish who taught them their musical traditions in church.

Back in Africa they just yelled and beat on drums with no sense of rhythm.

This is actual nigger music. It's just clapping and chanting. There is no diatonic scale and no harmony. All of that they learned from the White man. They're a bit better than american indians because they are keeping a 4/4 beat with a bit of syncopation, but that's it. All of the choral music and percussion music you automatically associate with africa because you've watched too much jewish television is a total retcon. Native nigger music never sounded like that.

>but it's very unstructured and "anything goes".

It is NOT anything goes. Some of the most complex jazz makes extremely heavy use of music theory.

This is an extremely brisk dismissal of one of the more complex forms of music.

Mock it if you wish, but you only expose your own ignorance.

Why not criticize blacks about their limited contributions to mathematics and science instead of trying to rake them over the coals on one of their strengths?

Nope. Jazz and Funk have very specific genre conventions. It isnt like an orchestral score; that shit requires methodical planning and oversight as well as holistic vision. But that being said, they absolutely have virtuoso performers and genre pushing technicians. If you think Jazz is random noise, you're missing the forest through the trees, because it's often an improvisational genre that requires an extreme amount of rigor as well as a deep understanding of musicality. Can some people do it innately? Sure, but they're extreme outliers. I bet you couldnt even clap in 11/8, let alone improve an atypical arpeggio in an obscure key. But that still isnt half as impressive as like Chopin, for instance.

>>508086920
Prog rock is only mid complexity. The new djent adjacent ultratechnical mathy stuff that is less dillinger escape plan and more animals as leaders meets mick gordon with a jazz interlude is top tier. Not in complexity, that goes to unlistenable postmodern antimusic, but in terms of actually good shit. Like Mohini Dey and Fernando Molinari.

>>508087650
Eh, apples and oranges. 99.9% of all music shouldnt be described as mathematical. Meshuggah? Sure, but if your music is described as mathematical you're missing the point a lot of the time.

>However much you might like jazz, you must admit at least one thing: it is NOT intelligently designed. It's basically just random.

It is NOT. If that was true, any random person could make a hit jazz album, when that is far from true.

It can be more complex than many forms of music, so to the untrained ear you cannot extract any form of structure from it.

This thread is stupid. It's like saying anyone can play basketball in the NBA because it's just tossing a ball around randomly.

To understand black achievement, you have to understand the Bell Curve; which states that most blacks are one standard deviation dumber than most white, a good half are dipping into literal retardation if not already there, but that many hundreds of thousands are as intelligent as an average white, and a tiny tiny percentage are geniuses. That tiny percentage of geniuses gives us a Charlie Parker or a James Baldwin or a Thomas Sowell. And black men like that should justly and deservedly be celebrated. But it says nothing about the great mass of blacks, who are simply a social sore and irredeemable genetic trash.

Most "mathematically complex" jazz is free improvisation, it's an ego trip circlejerk of who can sound the least accessible to the public, there is not much intellect behind it at all, just 'feelings' that translate into semi-random notes. Those with true talent like Oscar Peterson were doing nothing special but were just mechanically gifted and passionate, while ironically chastised by pseuds like yourself for not being subversive enough. But no, good jazz doesn't require mathematical genius

All the jazz haters are a bunch of faggots who've never touched a woman or a real instrument in their lives in this thread. First let's define jazz: a syncopated improvisational dance music born out of classical and folk through ragtimes earlier synthesis. A military surplus after the Spanish American war led to many instruments ending up in the hands of poor negros, though obviously Buddy Bolden, the first King of Cornet played earlier having claimed to invent jazz in 1895. Jelly Roll Morton first published in 1905 after twenty years of ragtime sheet music. Bolden went nuts, King Keppard went to LA and didn't want to record lest his licks be stolen, Original Dixieland Jass Band did record but in a gaspipey vaudeville style, King Oliver went to Chicago, summoned Louis Armstrong and in 1923 Dippermouth Blues was recorded. Since then no musician worldwide has been untouched by Pops' playing the changes, the first recorded "true" improvisor, as he did more than dance around the melody
Coleman Hawkins learned a lot and changed saxophone playing much more than say Rudy Wiedoeft. The advent of the electrical recording process was the next major game changer as it allowed tuba and 4 string banjo to be replaced by standup bass and guitar. There we have Eddie Lang, Lonnie Johnson, Steve Brown, Roy Smeck etc.. helping push stringed instruments into new territory. Meanwhile Cliff Edwards, future vice of Jiminy Cricket, was pioneering scat singing and ukulele around the time Potato Head Blues was recorded by Pops' Hot Five. I highly recommend the compilation That Devilin' Tune, and if you have a soul, you will agree that jazz music is best from 1925 to 1943. Commercialized symphonic heavily arranged bib band swing had all the life force sucked our of the 4/4 rhythm lovingly bestowed on us by Fletcher Henderson, Bennie Moren, Duke Ellington and bebop and whatever came after is tuneless garbage not fit to be called jazz but it had to happen. Like architecture, soulless after WW2

>Ruff was known for uncovering links between traditional black gospel music and unaccompanied psalm singing. Ruff's theory was that the Scottish Presbyterian practice of lining out โ€“ in which a precentor read or chanted a line of the psalm, which was then sung by the congregation โ€“ led to the call and response form of black gospel music.[13] Ruff co-created the documentary "A Conjoining of Ancient Song", which focuses on a rapidly vanishing form of congregational singing that is shared by Scottish, African American, and Native American music.[14] It received its world premiere screening at Yale in 2013.[15] Ruff's work in this area was also a subject of Sterlin Harjo's 2014 documentary film, This May Be the Last Time.[16]

The Spanish habanera was an equal influence on Stride pianists as James P. Johnson as it was on Jelly Roll who said what separated Jazz from Ragtime and Blues is the "Spanish Tinge".

Also: jazz is not music, but purely intuitive droning. Mathematically complex music with corresponding dynamics comes from Europe, if you want to listen to really well-calculated music, I recommend works by Johann Sebastian Bach. This music can renew your brain cells, boost your well-being and soothe your mind, while at the same time spurring you on to great deeds and perhaps even curing your cancer.

Jazz is high IQ in terms of sound and rhythm, when a negroe played jazz he needed to improvise on the spot and keep the same tempo but that doesn't mean he was eloquent in speak or any intelligent with space or math, he simply "booped".
Some people are highly intelligent in maths, shapes and abstract ideas but cannot read a room or cook an egg, they are socially and functionally retarded.
There's various combinations, in the case of africans they are frankly quite intelligent in terms of rhythm but retarded in all fronts, even in the general sound area because they cannot mimic accents or voices even as a joke.

Delta Blues has a much more solid claim to being 'black.' And even that follows the stylistic cues set by Scots-Irish call and return hymns.

Well your Jazz tunes aren't really Jazz, Autumn Leaves is a French semi-traditional and Fly Me to the Moon uses the harmony that's too plain and obvious but my point is that Jazz harmony and Classical are not the same thing, you'll see as you progress. Can't comment on "My Prince Will Come" because I've heard of it but never played it, I've probably heard it but didn't remember it.
As for your other comment, "Just swing it bro" well, you do have a point but first, how come nobody did it for 600 years if it's so simple and second, it's like saying "Just play an Iron Maiden song on an acoustic with full barre chords and rasquado and sing in Spanish and it sounds like Mexican music therefore Mexican music came from Metal"

Niggers are totally incompetent. That's how they became our enemy. That's why you shills try pull strawman arguments. You think you can just suggest something and we'll just pretend it's true. That means you expect us to have the willpower of a schoolchild whose teacher won't stop busting his balls. That means you can't imagine a world where man is anything but a buck-broken schoolchild. That tells me that you are a buck-broken schoolchild who still naively believes that schlomo is saving some porridge for you if you're a good goy. Schlomo hates you and he already gave the porridge to that fat nigger bitch who's always yelling at you. Schlomo and all your other jewish overseers hate you and will never give you anything. Stop working for the kikes. Get a real job. If you shills all got up and quit at once, the kikes would have to start paying you a wage comparable to that of law enforcements. You're going to try that and find the jeets sabotaging your plan by being fine with working for pennies, and you're going to wonder if socio-economic circumstances can truly make someone as retarded and evil as the jeets. Then maybe you'll finally realize *why* we FUCKING HATE NIGGERS AND KIKES.

> As for your other comment, "Just swing it bro" well, you do have a point but first, how come nobody did it for 600 years

Well yeah its more than that, its swing, combined with jazz harmony (substitutions and extensions), combined with improv, instruments,... If you swing on a classical piece it's "somewhat" jazzy but only part of the way there. if you add jazz harmony it's even closer. Jazz is in degrees and can be applied to harmony, melody, rhythm, form, instruments... whatever

Music theory is mostly post hoc rationalization done by dorks asking why something sounds "good". Jazz is really only complex (theory wise) because of the more free form/improv nature of it, which naturally doesn't fit as neatly into music theory as something simpler.

>Maybe a case could be made that had there been no blacks in America then they would've never combined the different components to create jazz. Which could be true
It's true but there are also cases to be made that if there were no blacks (or Arabs or the Chinese etc) then whites would never find their way out of the confinements of the classical practice, that if there were no Arabs there'd be no Spanish guitar and without Hawaiians country would never have pedal steel but I'm telling you that's the wrong approach because music doesn't evolve in a vacuum. Blacks in South America play Bossa Nova, would all that SA music happen by just playing Classical harmony ?
As much as other musics were influenced by European Classical theory, the same goes the other way, that's my point.

Hey buddy. Today Africa has a great music scene. I am a big fan of the rail band. Have been since forever.

But hundreds of years ago things were different there in the darkest parts of Africa, rhythm was not known as far as the earliest accounts go. Patterns would denote certain messages, music was as much about speaking in code than keeping a beat or making a melody.

Lots of people had shit music until the Germans showed them how to make good music, even Whites. So don't feel bad.

Nah you need to know some set of standards, which is much of what is played, or at least the important bits. Certain standardized progressions and things. Then you can let her rip. Still good jazz is like all good music, it takes skill and practice and talent to make. Not all famous jazz is necessarily good. Coltrane? You can have him for the most part. sure, it probably would've developed differently. Im not sure I'd paint it as the blacks (or whoever) "freeing whites from the classical plantation" though. Maybe without black intervention wed have something better than mumble rapping now, maybe not. Also, there's huge developments from baroque->impressionistic harmony, jazz harmony was somewhat the next logical step

The same is true with bossa nova and other SA styles, its just a fork from western classical influenced by the black culture in the location, if there were no blacks it wouldve become something else, maybe something better maybe worse.

I dont think we're really disagreeing about anything

>However much you might like jazz, you must admit at least one thing: it is NOT intelligently designed. It's basically just random.
Its not random, admittedly it does sound random to untrained ears. Basically the idea of jazz is to be able to play a different scale for each chord. This is why jazz never sounds out of tune but it does sound like unrelated music is being stitched together. Playing like this was cutting edge in the 1920s when jazz was invented and opened up possiblities that we use today. Even if you think music now does not borrowing from jazz, the fact that heavy metal guitar leads can sound so free and unlimited comes from the fact that jazz is part of our musical DNA and allows our ears to accept melodic lines that would never have been accepted before the 1920s.

My personal opinion is that playing chord changes (playing different scales over chord progressions) has gone as far as it can go and jazz musicians need to use their musical knowledge to stay in one scale. Changing scales constantly does make the music sound random and hard to follow. Just to be clear, changing scales is not the same as key changes. Key changes dont happen that often in jazz unless you get into modal jazz or free jazz.

>Rec me some jazz music. Even the crazy shit. I can handle it.
dont, if you jump into hard bebop jazz without knowing the theory behind it you'll just hate it more

to understand jazz you have to realize that jazz is just an extension of blues music.
this is Winton Marseilles explaining the basics of the blues
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AC0T7zrni0

blues is a I-IV-V circle of fifths progression using all dominant 7th chords. Because they are all dominant chords they all have a strong feeling of motion because the follow the circle of fifths. Diatonically (in the scale) only the V chord is dominant, so these brings extra motion to the music. jazz takes this to another level by using the II-V-I progression where all these chords are also 7th chords and follow the circle of fifths. Bear in mind that 7th chords were considered dissonant and it was black people who made all the different kinds of 7th chords sound consonant and become pleasing to the ear

You retarded gorilla niggers, people don't write music with math. Classical composers wrote by feeling too. You think those niggers were sitting there in the cathedral composing with roman numerals and formulae spinning around in their head? No, they sat in front of a piano, played around with some melodies that they heard in their head earlier that day and thought "damn, that sounds pretty good" then continued from there. Music theory is an analytical tool, used to describe music. Composing from theory is something you do on an exam.

If anything, jazz players are forced to think about theory because you have to know how chords are constructed to improvise a solo over them. Or maybe you have a guest singer who can't sing in the vocal range that your band usually plays in, so everyone in the band has to transpose the music to a different key.

I don't know why I'm bothering to write this since you're all retarded.

>Music theory is an analytical tool, used to describe music. Composing from theory is something you do on an exam.
It's both a practical tool and an analytical tool. It's not one or the other. Classical composers used "theory" when composing obviously.
It's like grammar. You follow grammar when you speak. These are rules that can be described, yet you still follow them, even if only subconsciously. But usually it was consciously with classical composers (rules of voice leading, handling dissonance, form, etc.)
Overall your point is right, though. Music is not a mathematical formula. Even if you follow grammar - you still need something to actually say. You can't just "follow grammar" and write a good novel.

Absolute faggots, every one of you. Whites refined jazz into a pure and blessed form of music. Japs do it better anyways and they are our brothers. Like how they do baseball better than us. Again, you're all faggots that don't know musical history. Blacks had little to do with Jazz's proliferation. I'll kill every Jew on the planet myself just for you acting like you're us.

What you described is pythagorean tuning.
Just intonation is not really a single tuning, but rather a type of tuning. So pythagorean tuning is a type of just intonation, but is not the only (or most common) type. Most cultures are going to use a 5-limit tuning system (pythagorean is 3-limit)
And pythagorean doesn't necessarily have 7 notes, either.

Nice one
To expand a bit on what I meant - bebop to me is pretty similar to older jazz. It's just played at a higher tempo, with some added scales/harmonies/rhythms etc. But in many ways it is fundamentally the same, just a bit "more".
Zappa's music on the other hand seems to be more like super modern try hard fusion. Changing time signatures all the time. Intentionally weird melodies or harmonies. Stupid sarcastic jokes, etc.
I've enjoyed some of his works, but what I tend to like the least are the music he's made which is labelled "fusion." His more conventional music or just blatant comedic music I enjoy. It's when he tries to get serious and ends up losing all aesthetics that I find it hard to enjoy. But maybe it will grow on me...

Lmao retard every chord is on the circle of fifths.
You can mark any old 3 chords and call it a day.
Basic Blues is: one chord, up a fourth, down a fourth, up a fifth, down a second, down a fourth, up a fifth (optional)
The "circle of fifth" progression, also called the cycle is when you constantly go up a fourth and down a fifth or the other way around, so "Fly Me to the Moon" or "All the Things You Are" but the latter is beyond your can
