There's almost no point to formal political debate because of this. Unironically 4chan style pol discourse is superior to institutionalized debate for advancing political ideas.

The opponent may not admit it at first, or it may not happen immediately, but a person can have their views changed through debate.
Even if you don't win over your opponent, you may convince the audience. And it's useful for finding weaknesses in your own position.

Yeah because ethics are ultimately justified via religious or quasi-religious belief and cultural norms. It’s possible that there is an objectively correct ethic, but people don’t necessarily apprehend it because it’s objectively correct. Like religion, they adhere to this or that ethic whether or not it’s correct and they do so on the basis of a theory. If someone rejects the theory, they reject the ethic.

That’s why debates are pointless. Liberals imagined debates, like they imagined science, could result in objective truths about ethics via the marketplace of ideas. In reality, debates are only useful for aesthetic displays. Watching a good debate is like watching a good fight, only neither “wins” in an objective sense. The victory lies exclusively in aesthetic impressions. You make your opponent look silly and you win, whether you’re objectively right or not. Napoleon was a genius for declaring that his way to debate with an intellectual was simply to shoot them. There’s much wisdom about the cold hard facts of life in that declaration.

Actually I get my news from what I see happening in the world around me which you fact check and tell me is fake and that im being brainwashed by some media network so im put through a re-education program for four years now while my ancestors founded the city I live in and I know exactly what happened to it
