I'm 38 now, have been slowly moving up every job hop/ acquisition I've been through. Software engineer, have been a "consultant" since like 2014. I went from a small consulting company to being at EY for 4 years and quit that several months ago to get paid more back at a startup.
My goal was always to make more than my dad did when he retired (he had a pretty high level state job as an architect), and I think with the recent inflation I'm back to below that number. Annoying, but my wife is a stay at home mom with our 2 kids, so it's pretty cool to be able to provide like a 1950's man in current year.
