Yes it's that widespread. And before LLMs were public paying former grads $100 an essay or buying prior semester test questions and answers was the norm. Obviously passing around finished coursework to cheat off has always been endemic. It's most of what turned me off of the prospect of going all in on college at all. When I got to highschool and realized everyone, and I mean everyone, in AP courses and physics/calc/linear algebra was blatantly cheating to maintain their perfect GPAs it became apparent to me it wasn't going to get any better in higher academia and I put my effort into more practical things.
