It's the production process itself. All processed food will pass through several machines and pipes made of plastic. The heat softens the plastic and the mechanical action breaks it up. We're all completely fucked unless we're rich enough to buy and cook non-processed foods.

Then why do drinks in plastic bottles noticeably taste of plastic, while from glass bottles they don't?

I avoided plastic bottles since childhood because anything in them tasted off, and this was way before I ever cared about any health implications.

Water, coke, etc all taste better from glass bottles than plastic. Assuming there's any truth to the linked article, I'd like to hear theories on why this is

Yeah fucking kill yourself, people actually have lives to live and want kids to support them in their old age. They will tolerate anything so long as they can have that. Whoever wrote that is a salty bitch he couldn't get people to kill themselves for his shitty ideas.
Also it's hobbyists that actually take time to do anything. If whatever he wanted warranted professionals, people would figure out how to get paid to do it. It's also interesting that beer manufacturers don't have to declare that they use PVPP in the ingredients list even though traces of it remain in the beer. The additive should be declared as E1202.

but different types plastic bottle have solid plastic caps while glass ones are painted on or overlayed. The study suggests you can reduce that plastic in glass bottles by washing the cap before you uncap the bottle by washing off the plastic dust that accumulates during manufacture and shipping.

In the study they were comparing microplastic in glass bottles to microplastic in plastic bottles and METAL CANS. And they were using some special glass bottles with plastic caps that had some special plastic paint to seal the bottle.
As if they intentionally designed a study to get such ridiculous results...
