As i got older i realized this is the literal definition of compensating or "lack of balls" as i'd say, men who are very insecure get these type of vehicles, usually 5'5 to 5'11, they do the utmost to avoid on road confrontation and they feel this is the solution. Reason you'll see 6'0 to 6'6 men in minivans and SUVs, they got nothing to prove.

The Reliant TW9 (Or ant) was popular with British councils for its low price, cheap running costs, ease of repair and the fact that the manufacturer would sell it as just a cab and chassis making conversion to various purposes very very easy.

Like many of Reliants vehicles the engine was basically just a motorbike engine and it had the three wheels and fiberglass body that were a hallmark of Reliants design MO.

Yeah diesels were really popular prior to dieselgate because of that in Europe. I think like half the cars sold here were diesels. Audi made this in the early 2000s. The Audi A2 3L which got it's name because it's average fuel economy was 3L/100km or 78.4 mpg. On highway it got 87 mpg.

I don't know what OP's intent was, but there's a difference between driving a truck and driving a "look at me" mobile that used to be a truck but is now useless for any kind of truck stuff because it's too tall to haul or tow and the giant wheels with skinny tires would get destroyed in half a mile on a real trail.

I love trucks and drive one that's got a leveling kit and slightly oversized tires but these mall crawlers are an affront to white blue collar culture and are just suburban wiggers imitating niggermobiles.

i think i had to do with Europe's refineries are cracked at a level to produce more fuel oil (diesel) than gasoline. i was reading about this years ago

don't be deceived though, there's no "magic" in a diesel engine, there's just more BTUs of energy in an equivalent size of gasoline. that's where the improved economy comes from

>Well, now’s the time to come clean. A normal Reliant Robin will not roll unless a drunken rugby team is on hand. Or it’s windy. But in a headlong drive to amuse and entertain, I’d asked the backroom boys to play around with the differential so that the poor little thing rolled over every time I turned the steering wheel.

I've driven one before. The things solid as it gets. Though a little terrifying when on roads with larger vehicles in abundance due to its small size.

It's not ideal but I've still done plenty of stuff with my small 5' bed truck that I couldn't do with a car or SUV, and it's a way better daily driver than a big truck, a tiny Japanese truck, or a cargo van would be. I'll probably go up to a half ton for my next truck because I moved to a house with a much bigger garage and driveway but in general a crew cab short bed truck is a really good compromise that can do 99% of truck stuff any normal person needs and there's a reason they're so popular.

That's not remarkable efficiency with an engine that small. America makes some very fuel efficient cars, but that's not the focus for the new car consumer at this point. Our gas is no where near as expensive is yours (aside from California) because we dont tax it like crazy. Also because our government slaps a lot of tax on fuel.
Smaller vehicles are also more sensible on British and European roads. As the roads are typically not as big and have less straight lines.
One of the reasons American cars sell so poorly in the UK is that most of them are just too big to be practical without really offering anything useful for the size.
Meanwhile small Japanese cars? Wildly popular.

To be completely frank, we call trucks like this "pavement princesses". the huge lift and giant rimmed wheels are almost exclusively done by people who dont actually use their vehicles for off-roading or any sort of work/towing. Its almost entirely useless, and the off roading vehicles that have any use for that much lift will have very small rims, and large tires with low tire pressure.

Tldr; american trucks are sweet but dont get big rims unless you want people to say you have a little weiner

Trucks are not a problem in the US since the car-centric infrastructure allows for ample space to use these cars without that much worry. In the Netherlands however, especially on/in the streets, there are significant size restrictions so you need to slow down to less than a crawl to go through the street without hitting anything. It is just not practical to have these things in places that the infrastructure is not able to accommodate oversized vehicles like that.

Trucks get better drivetrain, and having a bit open at the back for gooseneck trailers and dirty shit makes them a lot more versatile. Vans are good for trades that have lots of small fragile/valuable things. Even then you can just throw a service body on a truck and have the same while still having the superior frame and the like.

Part of the problem is that the diesel is always way more expensive when we get it and diesel fuel is more expensive than regular gas on top of that, like with the last-gen Colorado you'd have to drive it 250k miles or something before the fuel savings would pay for the diesel option and virtually nobody that buys that kind of truck new expects to keep it that long.

A lot of people seem to have a really hard time understanding the idea of a multipurpose compromise vehicle. Most people can't afford to have multiple nice vehicles anymore (or don't have parking space for them) and even if you can, a lot would rather have a nice daily driver truck and a sports car or motorcycle instead of a single-purpose utility truck and a boring sedan or SUV, and if you can only afford one nice vehicle it's also preferable to have a nice do-everything truck instead of two unitasker shitboxes.

the problem was the overblown market in the 2020s thanks to coof shutting down parts factories

dealerships went on a feeding frenzy, making thousands on each deal, which pushed the manufacturer prices up, so when the bubble popped a number of these dealerships went bankrupt

i can attest to this because last summer i saw a TON of trucks in random lots of hi rises i worked at, the window stick sun rotted and falling off

it went from a dealership problem, bankrupt to a bank and manufacturer problem. they were betting on those good times lasting forever

One of the dually fender flares is loose because the double sided tape they use to attach them to the body didn't adhere, and one of the A-pillar grab handles has a crack in it. Two things that should have been spotted at the factory. I also had to purchase OEM rear fenderwell liners because they ship them without anything protecting the steel back there. cummins diesels are the best trucks because the engines were made for industrial use, and powering a truck is underduty for what the engines are capable of.

Get a custom after factory air box and use membrane filters. Swap out the ECU for a home brew to bump your mileage by 30% and your toque by 40%.

These beasts are all gimped right out of the factory.

Why are zoomers so broke, I wonder?
I had multiple cars at 19, one of them being a pickup plus some nice muscle cars.

I have a Ranger. I like it but it's basically a '90s F-150. There are no small trucks anymore, just "midsize" trucks that are the size half tons used to be, and unibody crossovers with "truck" beds. I think the Ridgeline and Maverick have niche use cases and are decent vehicle but they're really competing with crossovers and not with traditional trucks.

Personally I'd probably have an SUV instead of a truck myself, if only we actually got any decent ones in America. The Wrangler and Bronco are too compromised for the removable tops and retro styling, the Suburban-class things are too huge and expensive, the Euro options are just plain too expensive, and the Toyotas are overpriced and miserable to drive for people with long legs like me. I'd buy the fuck out of a Ford Everest if we got it here, it's basically the same thing as my Ranger but with an SUV back, and since it's basically a Ranger it still tows like one so I could use a utility trailer for things that won't fit inside it.

Maverick comes with a hybrid FWD CVT powertrain default.
Does that answer your question?

I have Rams and Fords too (I own a construction company), and Fords are the best for a work truck, but my mom will be driving this pulling her horses. GMCs have the best interior, best ride and handling (IFS) and look nice. I hate the current Ford interiors with cheap shitty plastic everywhere. The Duramax in the GMC is powerful enough that it will beat the others 0-60, with something around a 6.5 second time unloaded.

We do, most of the bigger trucks (250/2500 and up) have 6 or 8 cyl turbodiesels as options and they're very popular. We just don't get them in regular cars or "small" trucks, and most people who want to spend extra for better efficiency go for hybrid options instead. I'd actually be really interested in a PHEV truck myself, since the idea of never having to use gas for everyday commuting and errands but still having the range and power for long trips sounds really nice.

I fucking hate 6’ beds.
Needs an 8’ bed, service cabinets, materials rack, dualies, a lift gate, a winch on the front, and a bench vise on the back.
Fucking posers.
Get a man’s truck.

Fair I’ve always heard they are nice but you are giving up a lot with the duramax making less than the others with more issues from what I’ve heard, they also fucked their version of the 10r140 with a weaker TC making the shifting worse. Also needing alignments on one tons is weird.

Agreed, although to be specific the engine most people regard as the best is the 12 valve 5.9 Cummins which isn’t put into pickups anymore, but I do know the 6.7 is pretty good as well.

Another light duty diesel people usually agree as being one of the greats is the 7.3 powerstroke made by international. I personally also like the international 7.3 idi, although they are severely underpowered. The 90s were the golden age for light duty diesels.
