8 years after enlisting at 17-18 would be 25-26, aging out of eligibility for conscription under current law. It would require new legislation for the age range to be extended and it's possible they would also want to prioritize former military. Veterans could be eligible for conscription, but it would require an existential war. Unless North Korea, Russia, China, and Iran come together and declare all out war on the west you'll likely be fine.

Army Guardsman here. What makes y'all think they would even WANT to reinstate the draft? They haven't done that in decades if my knowledge serves me correct. We're currently an old volunteer forest and they want to keep it that way as a way to weed out the dumb and weak (not that some don't slip through the cracks, but there's a reason the "1%" slogan is a thing).
