There isn't anything to explain. America is an oligarchy that serves wealthy special interests before anything else. It helps that half the population are consertivards who don't know american history who think everything is socialism, and the other half are libtards who will always tow the DNC's line no matter how much it contradicts their supposed ideology. Millions of people in America are 100% invested in "my team vs. your team" and that's why nothing ever changes. The country is not nearly as divided as the pundits would have you believe. There is an apathetic voter base that could do a course correction at any time but usually they are so indifferent that they dont feel compelled to.

Republicans win elections using the one two punch of rallying their base and convincing fence sitters not to vote because fence sitters tend to vote Democrat.
