are nukes even feasible weapons? couldn't they just be shot down?

They are too powerful to be shot down. Only a nuke could shoot down a nuke.

yes
but thats why you fire multiple at the same location.
even shitty 3rd world countries can get a few standard missiles through modern defense systems, so even a handful of nukes is enough to get at least one through.
probably something like 1 out of 5 to 1 out of 10 depending the the quality of the launch platform and the enemies defenses.

Yeah but only very advanced militaries can intercept ballistic missiles. We could fuck New Zealand up.
Anonymous (ID: U7Ar5Aos) United Kingdom No.508296815
Typical re-entry speeds for ICBM warheads are in the range of Mach 15, intercepting such objects is far from trivial even if you have perfect tracking information from the moment of launch, which you almost certainly won't have.

ALL ballistic missiles go into low orbit, release their warheads, which then fall to earth at hypersonic speeds. They have electronic guidance that allows them to "veer" towards a target in a several hundred mile radius.
Each missile can carry up to 20 warheads. So unless you can shoot them on the way up, or in space, they are very hard to defend against.

No, the bomb has a bomb inside it who's job it is to make the nuclear stuff be sqeezed together. If you shoot the bomb, that process doesn't work as planned.

The nuclear parts are already radiating all the time, but usually those atomic shots are just lost to the environment. You just want everything to be so close together that they instead trigger multiple other shots (chain reaction)

Too low resolution to see the effects.
If you were expecting a tsunami you're out of luck. Water around ground zero vaporizes faster than the blast can move it and the rest is limited by the weight of the rest of the ocean.

>can't they be shot down

Regardless if nukes are real, the short answer is no. Not examining the payload, looking at the verifiable ballistic missile tech, next generation missiles travel around 10k miles per hour and are unable to be intercepted from the ground by conventional surface-to-air missiles. Due to this I believe the next thing will be low-orbit space-based laser. The concept of the death star was merely predicted programming of events in the distant, now near future. It's also why the space force was created. Eventually space will be a massive theatre of combat.

This is retarded. Fission explosions work differently from detonations (combustion reaction that propagates through a medium faster than the speed of sound) but the result is the same, obscene energy released in a very short amount of time, the definition of explosion.
This "rehearsal" was to spread radiation around so the sensors monitoring the fallout could the tested and calibrated.
>>508303410
Concrete structures will fair a lot better than structures made from wood and paper. Charred if it had a direct line of sight to the exact point the bomb exploded at, but standing if it was far enough away.

what? no! another nuke would possibly detonate the other nuke's yield, which isnt what you want at all
a fragment type interceptor explosion will damage the electronics and the nuke can't detonate anymore. nuclear payloads are extremely sensitive to detonate, you need perfectly synchronized explosions and electron emitters and all kinds of shit that most countries didn't even figure out hot to do exactly yet
