Leftists were historically anti-immigration, because they recognized how it undermined labor's bargaining power to mass import scab labor from abroad. If you notice, the three big communist countries in the world today (China, Vietnam, and North Korea) are essentially ethnostates, while the most "anti-communist" / liberal ones (the Anglo countries) are the ones most enthusiastically trying to replace their natives with foreigners. The playbook of the right wing parties in these countries is to do a bait and switch where declare how much they hate "leftism" and "woke", which is read by the target audience as being anti-immigrant / nativist, but then once in power clarifying that what they really meant by "leftism" was a vaguely defined "collectivism" (i.e., any kind of organization against the economic predations of the ruling class), which of course includes denouncing white ethnocentrism as at turns ebil raycism or "cope for losers who can't compete"
