I did invested some decent amount of money. I end up tearing apart my hand held radios to see what was inside of them.

I also had a RTL-SDR, and you eventually get bored.

So what was my problem? no one to talk to, in the first place, other than harass some dumb cartel members. (it was fun, they are incredible dumb)

reception sucks, unless you install a huge antenna tower outside your house, but you will raise suspicios everywhere.

and there isn't any intelligent signal there, other than listening to FM radio, and the local airport.

But maybe I gave up because I never joined any HAM radio club. So perhaps that was my mistake.

If I have to start over, I would first start in joining up a ham radio club, before buying random non-sense.

That depends on your network and pi setup. I use it with maximum sample rate over a 2.4GHz WLAN no problem, absolutely 0 lagg. Also I installed raspbian on an m.2 ssd which is hooked to the pi via usb 3.0, which is slow but way faster than the SD card.

I've been messing around with the websdr website for a while but I was mostly just pressing buttons. When I eventually got a shitty baofeng uv5r I kind of learned a little bit about this stuff, but at some point it sort of became like math or learning to play an instrument.. that part of my brain doesn't run on all cylinders.

So I know I need to adjust something, but I am too much of a n00b still to be able to tell when I need to get narrower or wider or switch anything else.
