A push in that direction could lead to requiring games to have a downloadable offline mode that gives infinite play, but essentially leaves you running in place in a mouse wheel.

Losing progress and investment sucks, but the nature of the game was apparent. Like imagine how many hundreds of dollars the average Fortnite player will lose if the servers go down for good. There is something to say about this economic model that leaves consumers with less value, nothing physical.
