When you allow Protestantism to splinter into tens of thousands of denominations nothing is heresy and nothing matters because instead of trying to find the truth in a theological disagreement people will just splinter and make a new denomination that approves their point of view.

I'm open to being wrong, but I am not blind to the large differences in opinion within more monolithic institutions such as the Catholic church, my point is that they have a stronger foundation to appeal to so that they can settle disputes. It is not a silver bullet, but it is more of a floodgate than Protestantism has.
In Protestantism, the recourse is to simply start your own church with your own interpretations. What has this led to in the past centuries? Sweeping liberalization of society and diminishing influence of the Church in society.
Whether it is Catholics or Protestant or Orthodox or any descriptive term in between, I can't accept people betraying Christ's teachings in the name of tolerance, which itself is a false comfort.

Of course different protestant denominations also have varying levels of tradition and lineage but it is all still built on a premise of fractionation.
At what point will someone be held accountable for aiding in misleading others to damnation? It immensely frustrates me that these ideas even exist, how can people mentally warp themselves to directly contradict what the Bible spells out and not see it as a contradiction? There is room for interpretation in some things, such as debating the rapture and tribulations, but other things are concretely stated many times throughout the Bible. The people that do this anger me more than non-believers to be honest.

i see it just as having freedom of conscience, but yeah, some of us take Church History more seriously than others and that, combined with the obvious primary place of Scripture, does lend itself to more stability for sure.

same here because they should know better and be more careful. But in the same way that liberation theology has influence catholics for decades, so has the social gospel etc effected us. The homosexuality issue has proven divisive across the board and i really think that the church of rome is going to steadily keep shifting left on it as have the liberal faction within our denominations.
