So, by imposing a greater burden on itself, Christian Civilization also, unwittingly, forced itself to advance in knowledge and social organization as a way to take care of and even "fix" those who otherwise would be a burden.
The harder path, like not killing deformed babies just to be rid of their burden, turns out to be the most profitable path in the long term.
This is also why monogamy, rather than one "alpha" man having a harem of twenty women, is for the best. It forces society to learn how to work together and become more cohesive. No one man gets to have everything because that is morally wrong. As a result, we end up with stronger societies that more members have a stake in and will fight for.
And yes, the modern neoliberal period, which is atheistic, is tearing at the fabric of Christian Western Civilization and could destroy the enormous progress we've made.
