My gen x brother in law made 120,000 a year with a 2 year networking degree from a community college during the dot com boom. He had everything, but he couldn't stop himself from buying a new car every 2 years and rolling the debt over. He cheated on my sister, divorced her, snuck women into his apartment with my niece and nephew, was a raging alcoholic, and died of brain cancer in his early 40s. Millennials never got the chance to experience true financial freedom like they did. After 2008, wages dropped significantly and stagnated for a decade. Tech jobs were replaced by third worlders, labor and blue collar jobs were being replaced by illegals. Homes were unaffordable. I was 20 years old in 2008 and I had no fucking chance. If I'd had a decent job, which I never got (my best career was an assistant mail carrier at the post office making 15 dollars an hour which I got fired from right before I was going to make career) I still couldn't have remotely afforded a home. They went from 100,000 dollars to 350,000 overnight. Every millennial I know that has a home and a career either got it from their parents, had their parents cover a massive portion of it, or had connections in industries through their parents. I'm not angry or envious of them, I think generational wealth is a great thing, but it shouldn't fucking take generational wealth and nepotism to afford an ENTRY LEVEL home and have a career that pays you enough to live in the middle class.

The music, however (most of it, not nirvana, they were always too mainstream and manufactured) was really good. Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, Creed, Alice in Chains, were extremely creative and groundbreaking. A ton of bands in the 90s had excellent songwriting and melodies.
